I choose George Washington, Roland M. Mace,  Ringling Brother of a famous horse rider from Haverhill. Ringling paraded down the streets in Haverhill, years gone by, but mostly I had the honor of teaching a class  of children how to paint a mural.

They painted on the 3 Mural with their names signed. The kiddos were wonderful and a gift for me to see how at a very young age like I was to be encouraged to paint something wonderful

I reminded the children  they can show their grandchildren the  famous painting they did with Ms. Susan.

The murals are in a historic school for safe keeping now in the  "Haverhill Art Museum".

Muralist Susan Decker Portwatch

Susan's first pencil Mural next to Winter Street Cafe was the old Corner Luncheonette. After just two weeks Decker finishing a 13 by 4 pencil sketch mural that incorporates elements of both the old and new Newburyport.

"The people coming in here are having a blast with this" says Decker. "I am amazed to see the conversation going on around this mural". "Personally I love support

In fact. Decker has been relying on patrons to draw on their memories for the details to help keep the mural historically accurate. The Websters knew they wanted a pencil sketch mural that paid tribute to Newburyport.

The mural is the artist rendering the collaboration of these elements spanning from the early 1800 to present day. There is a ship-lined water front. Enoch Flanders, the last town crier, local grocer and character Albert Tilton and his continental carriage, a Boston and Maine train heading to Boston, circa 1864, and naturally, the Corner Store and Luncheonette

This is the biggest pencil drawing I've ever done. It's one of a kind. I don't think anyone else would have dared attempted it.

Historically this corner has always had a lot going on. Lots of neighbors come in here and can relate to what they see," says her husband. "The backbone of this business is the community. We did it for them.
